Education may be obtained from the multilingual public school system, whereby the Malaysia Government provides free public education to all Malaysians for Primary Schools (for age 7-12 years) and Secondary Schools (for age 13-17 years). The 6-year public primary school can be categorized into 2 categories based on the medium or language of instruction.
1)Malay-medium national schools  (Sekolah Kebangsaan)
2)Non-Malay medium national schools (vernacular school) further divided into:-
a) Chinese
b)Tamil
All schools admit students regardless of racial and language background

Public secondary education in Malaysia use Malay as the main language of instruction. English is a compulsory subject in all schools while Mathematics and Science are also taught in English. Chinese, on the other hand, is an elective subject.

   Private Primary and Secondary Schools
Private primary and secondary schools generally use English as the medium of instruction. Chinese Independent High Schools use both English and Chinese as medium of instruction with English language as a compulsory subject. In Malaysia, there is a total number of 61 Chinese Independent High Schools

Today, there are over 40,000 students in Malaysian International Schools.

   High Education

Malaysia’s higher education (public and private) has been growing by leaps and bounds over the years.

Private universities in Malaysia are also fast gaining a strong reputation for high quality education programs and students from all over the world are coming to Malaysia to study in these universities.

Many of these private universities offer twin-degree programs in collaboration with renowned universities from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, giving students the choice to complete their programs entirely in Malaysia or to spend just a year of study overseas to graduate.  International programs have the advantage of helping to promote international communication, cultural exchange and global thinking.

In recent years, many reputable foreign universities have set up their branch campuses in Malaysia, for example, Britain’s University of Nottingham, Newcastle University, the University of Southampton, University of Reading, Heriot-Watt University; Australia’s Monash University, Curtin University, Swinburne University and Singapore’s Raffles University. The presence of  all these foreign universities in Malaysia further attest to the excellence and high standards of the Malaysian Education System and environment and Malaysia as a destination of higher education in Asia.
