1. What is Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program?

MM2H is a long-stay residency program by the Malaysia Government to allow eligible foreigners and their families to reside in Malaysia on MM2H Social Visit Passes (Multiple-Entry Visas) [MM2H Passes] for retirement or extended periods of time.

3. What are the “financial” requirements of the 4 Categories of Participation?
All Applicants are required to:

  • Place a Fixed Deposit in a Malaysian bank and,
  • Purchase a residential property in Malaysia above the minimum values stipulated by MM2H Program and the State Government where the property is located.

4. When must I purchase a residential property in compliance with MM2H Program? And when can I sell it?

A successful Applicant is required to complete the purchase of residential property within 12 months after the MM2H Pass is stamped on his/her Passport. The Applicant is required to hold the property for at least 10 years. Within the 10-year holding period, the Applicant may to choose to upgrade only with a property of higher value.

5. I understand that an Applicant can apply to withdraw up to a maximum of 50% of Fixed Deposit for “approved expenses” under MM2H Program guidelines? When can I apply for withdrawal?

Under MM2H Program guidelines, application of withdrawal of Fixed Deposit for reimbursement of approved expenses, attached with official receipts or proof of purchase will be processed by MM2H Centre after the events.

6. What is the average processing time for an MM2H application?

MM2H Centre has indicated an approximate period of 40 working days or more after the submission of complete application documentation. Queries and verifications of information submitted, at times, may extend the overall processing time accordingly.

MM2H Pass (Social Visit Pass & Multiple-Entry Visa)

8. Can my MM2H Pass be extended or renewed on expiry?

Yes. Upon expiry, all MM2H Passes can be renewed for every 5-year intervals.

9. After obtaining my MM2H Pass, do I still need to apply any other visa to come into Malaysia?

No. Your MM2H Pass is a multiple-entry visa that allows you to enter and leave Malaysia anytime during the validity period of the Pass.

10. What happens when I have a new passport and my MM2H Pass is tagged to my old Passport?

You will need to apply to transfer the MM2H Pass endorsement from your old passport to your new passport. As your Registered Agent, we will assist you with your transfer application to MM2H Centre.

11. What should I do if I misplace or lose my original MM2H Letter of Approval (Conditional)?

No worry. We keep physical copies of all your application and approval papers in a Customer File in our office. We will just reprint a copy for you.

12. How to renew my MM2H Pass before it expires?

As your Registered Agent, we will prepare and submit your MM2H Pass renewal application with all required documentation on your behalf 6 months before the expiry.

13. What happens if the Applicant passes away?

The MM2H Program’s rights of the Applicant can be inherited by a designated dependent of the family.
14. Can I terminate my MM2H participation?
Yes. MM2H participants may voluntarily apply to terminate their MM2H participation at any time. After the termination application is approved, you are allowed to proceed with the withdrawal of the balance of Fixed Deposit placed under the MM2H Program.

15. Can a baby born in Malaysia become a Malaysian citizen?

No. A child born in Malaysia does not automatically acquire Malaysian citizenship unless he or she meets the requirements under the Malaysian Citizenship laws.

16. I am currently in Malaysia on a Work Permit? Can I apply to join the MM2H Program?

No foreign individual is not allowed to hold 2 active long-term visas in Malaysia simultaneously. Therefore, if you currently hold a Work Permit, your Work Permit must be cancelled before your MM2H application can be accepted for processing.

Participants in the Platinum Category enjoy also the following:

  • Bring in a foreign domestic helper from the home country.
  • Undertake approved employment in Malaysia.
  • Invest and operate approved businesses in Malaysia.

Employment / Business / Investment

19. Can I take up employment, set up and operate businesses in Malaysia?

As MM2H is essentially a long-stay residency program, participants in Silver, Gold, SEZ/SFZ Categories are generally not permitted to take up employment or actively manage day-to-day business operations in Malaysia.

Only participants in Platinum Category are allowed to take up employment, set up and directly engage in business operations in Malaysia.
